Raising awareness about the use and abuse of drugs and alcohol in our community and to prevent the use of substances.

Focusing on prevention through education and early intervention.

Engaging parents and youth in programs that provide information about the social, emotional, legal, and medical issues related to drug use.

Enhancing the safety, health, and well being of our community.

Highlighting the positive by acknowledging that many are already making safe and healthy choices. Supporting these choices by creating an environment that provides positive, drug free alternative activities

Empowering youth and supporting their healthy lifestyle choices.

Collaborating with community programs/organizations already working toward similar goals to promote a community climate that supports an alcohol and drug free lifestyle for our youth.

Partnering with Healthy Rivers Region Substance Abuse Action Team, a regional group of the Communities Promoting Health Coalition/PROP, and part of Healthy Maine Partnerships and the Office of Substance Abuse (OSA). http://www.healthymainepartnerships.org/

Following a CEHS program/panel discussion on prescription drug abuse in early 2008, a group of individuals responded to an invitation from the CEHS Health Educator to get involved in a more active way by joining members of the South Portland, Scarborough, Gorham and Westbrook communities in attending a meeting of the Rivers Region Substance Abuse Action Team. The group agreed that Cape Elizabeth could benefit from having its own action team that could work in conjunction with Healthy Rivers to address some of the concerns specific to our community. This group evolved into the formation of a Cape Elizabeth Community Action Team called H.O.P.E., which has met monthly since 2008, sharing concerns and ideas for Cape Elizabeth.
